There’s something almost spiritual about the way Mallory Chipman writes about the mundane. Imprinting wonder and curiosity upon each simple blade of grass and glass of beer she sings about, the 2026 Canadian Folk Music Award 'Solo Artist of the Year' nominee is swiftly becoming one of Western Canada's most noteworthy folk exports. A prolific songwriter, Mallory is anticipating her fifth full length album release in 2027: an album recorded at the National Music Centre entitled Court of Hope, that follows up 2024's Songs to a Wild God (#1 on CKUA, featured on CBC, NPR, SiriusXM), and her 2025 EP the time.
With a repertoire that is as deeply thought-provoking as it is dynamic and unfettered, Chipman draws her raw honesty from the garages of her youth where she first listened to classic folk and jazz cassettes on her dad's tape deck and later sang Zeppelin and Pink Floyd covers with her teen rock bands, sharpening the edge of her keen folk lyricism all these years later. Her songwriting centres connection in its purest form: connection with land, with one another, and with mystery and the esoteric, hence why audiences through Canada, the US, Ireland, UK, Japan, Netherlands, and Hungary return again and again to catch her live in clubs or festivals when she's on tour.
Mallory has opened for acts including Jann Arden, Lennie Gallant, Madeleine Peyroux, and the Ennis Sisters, and has sung back up for the legendary rock band, Heart. She was named Top 40 Under 40 by Edify Magazine for her trailblazing musical accomplishments, has received several nominations and awards for her recordings, and achieved viral success with her song, "Lawless", a folk song critiquing the billionaire class.
